About the PTSA

The Mission of the National PTA
  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
  • To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and
  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
The Purposes of the National PTA
  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

We are the Parent Teacher Student Association for Doctors Charter School of Miami Shores, a local chapter of the National Parent Teacher Association.  We are here to represent you: DCS parents, teachers, and students.

When you join the DCS PTSA, you automatically become a member of the county, state, and National PTAs.

County PTA

Our PTSA is part of the Dade County Council PTA/PTSA. Please visit their site at pta.dadeschools.net.

State PTA

State PTAs are the liaison between the local PTA and National PTA, helping each to function effectively and to support and sustain the other. Visit the Florida PTA website at www.floridapta.org.

National PTA

National PTA provides leadership, programs, support, and resources to its members at all levels of the association. Visit the National PTA website at www.pta.org.

PTA vs. PTSA

Some PTA chapters encourage students to become members.  Local PTAs with student members are often referred to as Parent-Teacher-Student Associations (PTSAs).  Because we encourage student membership, we adopted the PTSA name for our organization at DCS.

Our Website

We are guided by the following information, published by the National PTA:

National PTA believes that all PTAs have the responsibility to do the following:

  • To protect access to quality education for all children
  • To seek information on policies, curricula, and laws that affect children
  • To share accurate information with members and the school community
  • To know, help, and interact with teachers and administrators
  • To accept responsibilities willingly to assure that the PTA is strong and active
  • To work both within PTA and the school in a constructive manner, maintaining respect for democratic procedures and a tolerance for the diversity of opinions
  • To work in partnership with school professionals to determine appropriate programs and services
  • To participate in making decisions affecting policies, rules, and regulations
